Forship Group to seek partnership with Japanese companies

Rio de Janeiro, September 12, 2016 - Moving forward with the implementation of the growth and internationalization plan, Forship Group top management set off a road show to Japan in the 1st half of 2016. The purpose was to contact stakeholders from Japanese companies and agencies aiming to establish partnerships for future contracts and step up technological development. CEO Advisor Ricardo Vahia and Forship Group's Deputy CEO Roberto Rocha led this international mission.

“For nearly 20 years we worked for Rio de Janeiro based Ishikawajima do Brasil Estaleiros S/A (Ishibras), an affiliate of Japanese IHI Corporation, which was one of the companies visited during the road show. As part of our training, we also studied at Instituto Hida do Brasil (former AOTS), in Japan. At the end, we had built a strong relationship with the people and the companies included in the visit," says Rocha.

Besides Hida, the team also visited Japan Marine United (JMU), the second biggest ship builder in the country; the JDeEP, a consortium formed by Japanese companies including IHI Corporation, Mitsubishi, Kawasaki, among others; ship classification society Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (NK); Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC), a government agency that provides financial and technical support to private oil companies in the country; and Nagoya-based shipyard IHI Corporation, in Aichi.

“Forship Group has no operations in Japan as yet, but we are paving the way to enter this major market. Therefore, such visits have strategic relevance to our business, especially at this global economic scenario. IHI Corporation companies, for example, hold high-tech engineering expertise for offshore and ship building projects and they showed openness to future partnerships with Forship" regarding projects in Asia, Africa and South America, says the Deputy CEO.
